Nike Air Jordan XI 11 Bred Black Red 2012

The Bred 11, with the red and the black made their appearance in April 1995. They debuted on the court with none other than Michael Jordan and the Bulls sporting the new look. The colors went well with the Bulls away uniforms. They had black patent leather and black mesh up-top and a red outsole. It was Jordan who began wearing the shoes even at the home games. No one knew it at the time, but the Air Jordan XI Bred 11 would carve out a place in fashion culture and footwear history.

The shoes have been reissued twice; in 2001 and 2008. There is another release planned for 2012. What makes the original so iconic is how Jordan played in them. Of course, all of the shoes designed for him seem to have worked wonders. It was in ’95 that Jordan came back out of retirement with the simple statement; “I’m back”. Six games into his comeback, he scored 55 points against the Knicks. The game was dubbed the double nickel.  The following season, Jordan saw the Championship dream realized.

It was that year, with Jordan wearing the Bred 11 that the Bulls achieved the most remarkable year of any club. The Bulls had 72 victories during the regular season, and Jordan boasted a 30.4 ppg. They took the playoffs in 15-3 win and went on to beat the Sonics in a six game series win. On Father’s Day of that year, Jordan reclaimed the title in an emotionally charged moment that had him cradling the ball while on the floor of the court. He openly cried. Many of his fans did the same. All of this, while wearing the Air Jordan XL Bred.

Michael Jordan enjoyed a memorable career in the NBA. His retirement, short lived baseball career, and return to basketball would have been historic enough, but in the usual Jordan style, he wowed the crowds even after coming back from retirement. Was it the Air Jordan XL Bred that helped the success? Some say yes. He always had great luck with his custom made shoes, which always became immensely popular by the way. Some say that no matter how many remakes, there will only be one Air Jordan XL Bred, and that is the original. Others welcome any in the 11 series, or in the Jordan series for that matter.
